After nearly a four-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce's Chopsticks & Wine event finally made it's full-scale return on Thursday, April 13th, 2023. Nearly 1,100 HJCC Members, friends, and foodies attended the event at the Hawaii Convention Center as we celebrated the 19th anniversary of our signature fundraising event.
On Saturday, April 30, 2022, the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce (HJCC) hosted a virtual gathering, the final event in the first-ever Chopsticks & Wine with a Twist, featuring a month’s worth of events celebrating food, wine and our community.
We hosted dine-in and takeout opportunities for Corporate Table sponsors, as well as individual packages for two at participating restaurants including MW Restaurant, RumFire Waikiki, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Sansei Waikiki.

The workshop was highlighted by locally crafted beer paired with “off the menu” chicken WingZ by Zippy’s. Thank you to Nick Wong, co-founder of Beer Lab Hawaii and Trevor Luke, Culinary Director from Zippy’s for that very engaging and informative workshop…maybe just my imagination, but it appeared that Nick was getting more engaged as the tasting went on. While others may disagree, I personally enjoyed the MILILANI RED with the Savory Li Hing wings as the pairing seemed more pronounced than what I normally experience with wine pairings.Lastly, thank you to the members of the committee, Mai Shiomi, Sid Hamada, Arnold Hirotsu, Lyle Takeuchi, Marc Nakamoto, Craig Hirasaki, Gordon Nihei, Gordon Kagawa and pick up location volunteers, Greg Kawakami, Rick Mishima, David Miyasato and Eslie Medallon. There’s a few more Beer Lab Hawaii insulated tote bags available for sale at $10. Please contact Mai Shiomi at the HJCC office if you are interested. For those that missed the ZOOM presentation, you can view it by clicking on the YouTube link: https://youtu.be/eGUyGS6M-7Y |
