Aloha fellow members, friends, and supporters of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce,

120 years ago, a handful of Japanese merchants banded together with the mission of aiding the Japanese immigrants who were left with nothing following the Great Fire of 1900 that decimated the Chinatown area of Honolulu in an effort to rid the city of the bubonic plague. This group of businessmen formed the first chapter of what is now the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce (HJCC).

Today, history is repeating itself as we grapple with the seismic impact on our economy from the Coronavirus Pandemic. At this moment the HJCC is returning to its foundation of "members supporting members" to one another through this crisis, just as they did in 1900. To underwrite this effort of "members supporting members", the HJCC is planning a number of special events to recognize our 120th anniversary which is being celebrated throughout the entire year. Our goal is to provide the resources and services necessary to sustain the Chamber and its mission and commitment toward our values of fostering friendships, connecting business to business, and Mālama Ka 'Āina (caring for the land).

Understanding the challenges that our Hawaii economy and all business are facing, we are humbly requesting your participation in a "one ask" request for monetary, in-kind, and/or a donation of services or items to be used in our fundraising events and other celebratory milestones this year. Our plans include online business seminars, a virtual golf outing, silent auctions, food and beverage tastings, and digital networking opportunities. Should current restrictions change, we may transition to in-person events.

Through pandemics, wars and recessions, it is clear throughout history that the greatest asset of the HJCC has been its members, friends, and supporters. We simply cannot be who we are today without you. As we move forward towards recovery, we ask you for your support to help, once again, live up to the mission and values established by our founders.

Please see the CONFIRMATION of SUPPORT form attached or call our office anytime from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. While our staff is working remotely to protect their health, we are readily available to take your call or email. Our office number is (808) 949-5531 or [email protected]

Let's all work together to create our way forward into the next 120 years. Your support is sincerely appreciated!

Doomo arigato gozaimasu.
